How did Canyon, Texas get its name?

It was originally Canyon City but City was later dropped. It was named after the second largest Canyon in the nation. That canyon is Palo Duro Canyon State Park, which is located in Canyon. It was named by Mr. Connor the founder of Canyon. He did not name it after himself because he was not the type of person to let it be known he is the founder. He bought Canyon for $3 an acre from the state of Texas. - Cortni R.
